Kamieskroon Flower MOTORCYCLE Tour
Imagine riding through a sea of vibrant wildflowers, with rugged mountain landscapes as your backdrop—this is what WAVOLT’s adventure motorcycle tour around Kamieskroon during flower season offers.
Nestled in Namaqualand, Kamieskroon transforms into a breathtaking floral wonderland from August to September, when the desert bursts into color after winter rains.
Our motorcycle tour will take you along winding dirt roads, through the granite-strewn Kamiesberg mountains, and into the heart of Namaqua National Park, where fields of daisies, succulents, and rare blooms create an unforgettable spectacle.
Along the way, you’ll experience the thrill of off-road riding, discover hidden viewpoints, and soak in the solitude of this remote yet mesmerizing region.
We top this experience with a stay at the Kamieskroon Hotel. During flower season it is a must because it places you right in the heart of Namaqualand’s most spectacular floral displays.
This tour is a perfect blend of adventure and natural beauty.

Situated just South of Springbok, Kamieskroon is set among the granite rock formations of the Kamiesberg range in the Northern Cape province of South Africa. Kamieskroon’s origins lie in the 1860s, 7km north of its present position. It took the name Bowesville (later Bowesdorp), after the district surgeon, Dr Henry Bowe.
As there was little room to expand in the narrow kloof the town occupied, the church council decided, in 1924, to rebuild it at Kamieskroon. Kamies might derive from the Nama word ‘kam’, meaning two – referring to the twin peaks of the mountain. The ‘kroon’, a 330m peak crowned with a huge, cleft rock, is a kilometre from the village.
Leliefontein Methodist Church and Parsonage – Both national monuments in Namakwa’s oldest village. In 1902 Boer leader Manie Maritz massacred members of teh Leliefontein mission community that were suspected of being British sympathisers.
Lt DJ Darter’s Grave – The grave of a British officer killed during the Anglo-Boer War, Darter’s grave – 15km south of the town – is the smallest piece of foreign land registered in South Africa, in an area that saw many skirmishes during the war.
We leave Cape Town on Thursday morning around 8:30 from Malmesbury to Bitterfontein.
It’s a long tar morning until we get to Bitterfontein. The ride from here takes you along winding dirt roads, past granite-strewn hills, and through historic mission villages like Leliefontein, where the scenery is as rich in history as it is in color.
As you ascend into the Kamiesberg, expect cooler air, dramatic mountain passes, and panoramic views of wildflowers blanketing the valleys. The final stretch into Kamieskroon offers some of the most spectacular floral displays
Our route through Skilpad Wildflower Reserve during flower season is a breathtaking motorcycle ride through one of Namaqualand’s most spectacular floral landscapes. From August to September, the usually arid terrain bursts into a vibrant display of wildflowers, creating a surreal backdrop for your journey.
Starting near Kamieskroon, the route winds through the Namaqua National Park, where fields of orange and yellow daisies stretch as far as the eye can see. The Skilpad section is particularly famous for its dense floral carpets, offering stunning photo opportunities and a chance to ride through a kaleidoscope of colors. The terrain varies from gravel roads to gentle mountain passes, making it an exciting yet accessible ride for adventure motorcyclists.
Along the way, you’ll encounter rugged granite outcrops, hidden valleys, and panoramic viewpoints that showcase the beauty of Namaqualand in full bloom.
Our motorcycle route via Wildepaardehoek Pass to Hondeklipbaai during flower season is a thrilling ride through Namaqualand’s rugged beauty, where the landscape transforms into a vibrant floral spectacle.
The Wildepaardehoek Pass, part of the Caracal Eco Route, offers breathtaking views of rolling hills and granite outcrops, with wildflowers carpeting the terrain from August to September. The gravel roads provide an exciting challenge, winding through remote valleys and past historic landmarks. As you descend towards Hondeklipbaai, the scenery shifts to coastal dunes and rocky shores, where the Atlantic Ocean meets the wild Namaqualand terrain.
This route is perfect for riders seeking a mix of mountain passes, off-road adventure, and coastal serenity, all set against the backdrop of one of South Africa’s most spectacular natural displays. .
