B= Breakfast, L = Lunch,  D= Dinner

SAT 18 Sept  (D)  CT to Loxton 550 km – We leave Cape Town on Saturday morning heading via Sutherland to Loxton. We stop in Sutherland for a lunch break and chill for a while to enjoy the tranquility of this Karoo town. After a bite and something cold we head towards Loxton riding the open spaces of the Great Karoo.

We spend a night in the picturesque Loxton where you will be treated with true Karoo hospitality. You can walk the beautiful streets, visit the truck museum or just relax while we prepare a perfect Karoo style braai for dinner.

Sun 19 Sept (B&D) Loxton to Karoo Nights Gariep 390km: It’s a big Karoo day all the way to Gariep. The Karoo offers great riding and en route to Gariep our route takes us via some Karoo gems like Victoria West, de Aar and Colesberg. The route itself will show you the true beauty of the Karoo and its little koppies.

We stay at the beautiful Karoo Nights, a working Karoo farm. Lost in the South African outback, this magnificent sheep farm entertains a delightful mixture of simplicity and comfort. Set amongst tranquil gardens and shaded trees, this oases is great for stargazing, glorious Karoo sunsets, short walks, bird watching and farm animal interaction. Cool down in the farm dam, whilst soaking in the splendid surroundings. Dinner will be a typical Karoo experience.

Mon 20 Sept (B&D)  Karoo Nights Gariep to Mountain Shadows Elliot 370km: We leave Karoo Nights after breakfast heading towards Lady Grey where we start heading into the the mountains.

It’s a beautiful route from Lady Grey crossing Joubert’s Pass, Otto du Plessis Pass and Barkley Pass before reaching our place of lodging, Mountain Shadows, situated amongst the picturesque mountains of the Southern Drakensberg Mountains, in the heart of the Eastern Cape.

Tues 21 Sept (B&D)  Mountain Shadows to Rhodes 230km: It’s a scenic route to Rhodes where we spend 3 nights. Our route to Rhodes takes us via Maclear and then up stunning gravel passes like Potriver, Elandshoogte and Naude’s Neck before descending into Rhodes Village.

The term ‘frozen in time’ takes on new meaning when applied to the little village of Rhodes , perched in the Eastern Cape Highlands virtually on the border with Lesotho at the foot of the highest mountain pass in South Africa.

The Rhodes Hotel is our home for the next 3 nights.

Wed 22 Sept (B&D) Rest Day  –  Its a day of leisure and you decide what you want to do. There is a lot to explore in and around Rhodes

Fly-fishing – fishing for trout is a favourite pastime in Rhodes Village. The cold mountain streams are the ideal home for a variety of great catches, including large yellowfish. There are five trout farms, guaranteeing productive fishing for trout and other species. Otherwise, the main trout-fishing rivers are the Kraai, Bokspruit, Bell and Joggemspruit rivers.

Hiking, mountain biking or horse riding the mountain paths in summer. Abseiling down the face of one of the local mountains is sure to get the heart racing while you enjoy fabulous views of the landscape from your elevated positioning.

Being such a mountainous area, the many caves here were once occupied by indigenous folk who lived off the land. They left fascinating insights into their lives and customs in the form of rock art, painted on the caves’ walls. A tour of these natural art galleries is memorable, to say the least.

Thurs 23 Sept (B&D)  Rhodes to Lundean’s nek Pass loop  – 120km: It’s a big gravel passes day with amazing scenery. We ride up Carlislehoek pass to Tiffendell. Unfortunately at the moment Tiffendell is closed and therefore denies us access to Ben Macdhui, the highest point. We will monitor the situation and if accessible at the time we there we will take the adrenalin junkies to the top!!

After Tiffendell we go down Volenteershoek Pass to Wartrail. Wartrail is not, as many people think, a ‘trail’ but a farming district. The name derives from skirmishes between the cattle raiding parties of King Moshesh, and the Xhosa people living nearer to Barkly East. From here we ride up Lundean’s Nek Pass before returning to Rhodes.

Fri 24 Sept (B&D) Rhodes -KarooPark Graaff-Reinet 500km – Sadly we start heading back but the route is a beautiful ride through the Eastern Cape via Barkley East. Dortrecht, Hofmey and many more to Graaff- Reinet.

We stay at Karoopark guesthouse, no stranger to WAVOLT customers and know for their great hospitality and food.

Sat 25 Sept (B&D) KarooPark to Mooiplaas Volmoed – 360km: We hit the road early riding beautiful route via Aberdeen and Rietbron to Klaarstroom where we stop for a break and something cold.

From here we ride the stunning Meiringspoort with its flowing bends, any bikers dream. We heading towards Volmoed just outside Oudtshoorn for our final nights stay.

Our final night is in a very special place, Mooiplaas just outside Oudtshoorn. We end the tour on a high with a great food and an awesome setting.

Sun 27 Sept (B)  Mooiplaas Volmoed to CT: 390km Sadly we say our goodbyes and head back home.
