Garden Route, George 7 Passes, Kom se Pad, Knysna Forest, Prins Alfreds Pass, Baviaanskloof, Grootrivier Poort, Antoniesberg Pass, Steytlerville, Karoo Farms roads, Prins Albert, Swartberg Pass, Die Hel. Groenrivier, Route 62 and many more

We leave Cape Town on Wednesday morning. The route takes us via Robertson, Bonniedale, Riversdale, and Herbertsdale riding a combination of tar and beautiful dirt roads. From Riversdale we ride some of the best dirt roads all along the foot of the mountain to George.

After George we ride the stunning old Kaaimans pass and then decent down into Wilderness where we overnite. The sunset and sunrise is just stunning from where we are staying.

It’s passes day!  We leave Wildernis and ride eight of the fifteen passes en route to Baviaanskloof. The route take us via Knysna to Gouna where we ride Kom se Pad surrounded by stunning views of  indigenous forest clad mountains. At the bottom of Prins Alfred’s Pass we take a break at the famous Angie’s G Spot.

We travel up Prins Alfred’s Pass to Uniondale, our last fuel stop before entering Baviaanskloof from the Western side. The ride into Baviaanskloof to our overnight spot is an easy one allowing you to enjoy the beauty of the kloof.

Our overnight spot will give you a typical farmhouse style stay. Fire, braai, cold ones and sharing stories around the fire of the days ride will be at the order of the day.

The days route is only 200km but will take us most of the day. From our overnight spot the road becomes mostly single track with lots of little river crossings, climbs, descents and lush vegetation making it a stunning ride.

We arrive around lunchtime in Patensie for a welcome lunch break. After lunch  it’s time for some more awesome riding. The route to Steytlerville take us via Antoniesberg Pass and Grootrivier Poort. The fist section to the bottom of Grootrivier Poort (40km) is mainly single track and will keep you busy giving you lots to talk about over drinks the evening.

We overnight in the Steytlerville Royal Hotel where you will experience true Karoo hospitality and typical Karoo cuisine.

After breakfast we make our way towards Willowmore following the banks of the Grootrivier. Its a beautiful ride with typical Karoo landscapes and twisty roads all along the banks of the river. From Willowmore we get onto farm roads and there is a section of riverbed to ride for the more adventurous ones among us. Don’t worry you can stay on the road if you wish.

We arrive around lunch time in Prins Albert for a welcome lunch break.  After lunch we head up Swartberg Pass and down into Die Hel where we will overnight.

To experience Die Hel you have to sleep over in the houses that once was home to the people living here. It will give you a real experience of what life in Die Hel was about.

You will be treated to traditional cooking prepared by Marinette, daughter to Annetjie Joubert (nee Mostert) the only remaining “born and bred” inhabitant that has retained property in Gamkaskloof and came back permanently in 1998.

Sadly after breakfast we head back to Cape Town but still have some good riding to do.

The route is a scenic one out of Die Hel over Swarberg Pass into the Klein Karoo where we follow the Groenrivier road to Calitzdorp.  After a much need refuel in Calitzdorp we follow route 62 back to the Mother City.
